Preparing for a Session
If possible, choose a room with a comfortable temperature (It’s especially important to avoid being cold). Choose clothing for ease of movement. Have a blanket near by as it’s common for body temperature to fluctuate during the session.
The space should be quiet and closed off to other parts of the house or apartment. We’ll be exploring new inner territory and it’s important to have a stable and secure external environment.
You will spend time in both a sitting and lying down position. Find a location that will allow you to easily transition from one to another. In the lying down position, you’ll want a thin pillow or folded hand towel to support your head, and a medium or large pillow to place under the backs of your knees. Have these items assembled ahead of time.
Place your computer so that you’ll be clearly visible when sitting up or lying down. In the lying down position, you’ll want to be visible at least from the waist up. It’s okay if the computer will need to be adjusted when changing positions. Think ahead so the adjustments will be easy and stress free.
Objects such as stones, crystals, and candles can be used to create a deeper feeling of calm and security. If desired, these objects can be held or placed nearby to provide additional support during a session.
A warm shower or bath is an excellent way to prepare for a session in all but the hottest weather (or if you’re feeling overheated). Focus on breathing slowly and evenly. Feel the warmth and movement of the water. Feel the effect of the warm water on your heart. In a pinch, a few minutes of warm water on your hands and forearms in a sink will do the trick. If the weather is very hot, a slightly cool shower or bath is recommended.
Don’t worry if you can’t manage some of the steps mentioned above. I’ve received and conducted productive sessions without them. Do what you can and your body will do the rest.
